Sea foam fuel: The future of Shipping

PBT introduces a revolutionary marine fuel made from naturally occurring ocean bubbles, promising cleaner, more efficient voyages and a bold step toward sustainable shipping.

PBT had unveiled its latest innovation: “Sea Foam Fuel”, a revolutionary marine fuel derived from naturally occurring ocean bubbles.

According to PBT scientists, microscopic sea foam contains trapped oxygen and organic compounds that can now be harvested and converted into a clean, high-efficiency fuel for ships. Early tests suggest that vessels powered by Sea Foam Fuel could see up to 20% higher efficiency compared to conventional marine diesel.

Marine innovation is at the heart of what we do” said Evert Elema, Managing Director of PBT. “Sea Foam Fuel is our most creative solution yet; sustainable, natural, and completely in harmony with the ocean environment we serve.

The fuel is produced using specialized collection buoys and conversion units, which capture the foam from the ocean surface without disturbing marine life. Once refined, the fuel can be used immediately in auxiliary engines or blended with standard bunker fuel for larger vessels.

PBT plans to roll out pilot installations at select Northern European ports over the next quarter. The company also hinted at future projects exploring other “ocean-based” fuels, including algae-derived blends and wave-generated energy storage.

We believe the oceans hold untapped potential, and Sea Foam Fuel is just the beginning,” Evert added.

Stay tuned to PBTs website and social media channels for updates, and get ready to see ships fueled by nothing but ocean bubbles very soon!
